How to find the right colorist for you

Anything No Comments

Finding the right colorists is like finding a soul mate. He or she has to know and understand you or in this case your hair inside and out.

1. Look at family, friends and work colleagues who have great hair color. Ask them who did it and give that colorist a try.

2. When you finally make the appointment, take a look at your colorist’s hair color. Do you like it? Does it brighten or dull her face? Her choice of hair color is the beast gauge to see how good she is. If she looks great, go.

3. A professional hair colorist is like a good doctor, she will ask for your hair history, especially if you are a fist time client. If she easily dismisses your concerns or doesn’t take time to explain the process, then look for another one who will.

4. A good salon would keep your chosen hair color on file so when you return, you don’t have to go through the color chart and look for what you had the first time around.

5. A reputable salon also doesn’t scrimp on hair products. Before committing, check their product shelves and ask what exactly they will use on your hair.

You saw how your best friend’s hair was chemically damaged when she had it colored at this new salon. And what about your officemate who wanted to have dark brown hair and ended up with scarlet tresses? If it happened to them, it can happen to you, too. The box shows a certain color, but you have no idea if that’s the hair color you will actually end up with. Maybe the best thing to do is to color your hair yourself. You only need to follow the instructions in the product box, right? Wrong. The most important rule to remember when you’re having your hair colored for the first time is: Don’t do it yourself, your best friend and officemate. The second rule to remember is to check out the salon’s reputation. Ask around you should hear the best along with the worst.

1. Know your skin undertone.

2. Don’t go more than two shades lighter or darker than your natural hair color.

3. Make sure your highlights blend with the rest of your color base.

4. Go to the salon every two to three months.

5. Use a shampoo and conditioner made for colored hair.
